Thought For The Day – Wednesday 5th July 2023

Breaking Down Barriers

Good luck to those cricketers and staff involved in the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) fixture at Jobbers Wood today.

MCC is the most active cricket club in the world, owner of Lord’s Cricket Ground, guardian of the laws of the game and has significant global influence in cricket.   Another wonderful opportunity at TBSHS.

Thank you very much to Mr. Trigg for all he does to prepare Jobbers Wood for this and fixtures in all seasons year after year after year.

Thanks to the leadership of staff, the participation of students and the support of parents, TBSHS offers a plethora of opportunities.

A very important national report last week stated last week that there is much work still to be done in cricket against racism, against sexism, against gender prejudice and discrimination and against classism.

The same is true in many areas of sport, and life. The doors of opportunity must be numerous, wide, open and encouraged.   Barriers must be broken down.   It is a game for everyone.  It is a life for everyone.

In a groundbreaking move, Forest Green Rovers yesterday appointed Hannah Dingley as their new interim manager and coach, on merit,  based on Hannah’s great experience and qualifications.

Hannah Dingley is the first woman to manage a professional men’s team in English football, having previously been the only woman to manage a men’s English Football League academy. Hannah Dingley has been inspired by the successes Lionesses and Emma Hayes.

Hannah said: “It’s an exciting time in football. I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and lead such a progressive and forward-thinking club. You’ve got a responsibility as the first to open the doors for others and to encourage others.  You always say if you don’t see it, you’re probably not going to be it. The fact that I do this I hope it encourages more females to come into coaching, into football, into different roles. I feel a great responsibility to talk about that.”

Forest Green Rovers are a club that break barriers.  They have long been known as the “greenest” football club in the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ANq6rlXYZ8
