Thought For The Day – Wednesday 26th February 2025
LGBTQ+ History Month
February is LGBTQ+ History Month.
LGBTQ+ History Month each February celebrates, promotes and makes visible the absolutely brilliant, and essential, contributions of LGBTQ+ people to society.
For the LGBTQ+ community are our community. And our community is the LGBTQ+ community.
LGBTQ+ History Month challenges negative prejudice and negative discrimination, helping create an equal, diverse, fair, inclusive, just, kind, loving, respectful, safe and welcoming environment for all.
We treat people as we wish to be treated. We treat people as they wish to be treated.
The theme for LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 is: “Activism and Social Change”.
So much has been achieved as regards equality.
But the journey of, and to, all equality, and the associated care, nurture, upstanding and vigilance, is always on-going. Past, present and future.
Thanks to Mr. Reeve, Mrs. Miles, TBSHS’ Senior Management and Equalities teams, all staff, all students and all carers, guardians and parents, including all who came before, TBSHS can be very proud of, and inspired by, our commitment to these integral and vital values.
Pictured below are our ground-breaking School Equality Values, which connect to, and manifest, our inspirational Five School Values, making them even more practical, real and relevant.
We should note these values are appropriately, genuinely and respectfully broad. These values are inclusive of all respectful diversity. Everyone and everything matters.
When we show support to, and empathy and solidarity with, one respectful person and group, we are also showing support to, and solidarity with, all respectful groups by example. To disrespect, ignore and neglect one is to disrespect, ignore and neglect another.
Pictured with these values below are guest speakers, who have visited TBSHS in the last two years, who are LGBTQ+ role models: Peter Tatchell, an international human rights leader who co-founded and co-organised the first “Pride” march in the U.K.; and author and broadcaster Clare Balding CBE.
Like all heroes and inspirations, LGBTQ+ heroes and inspirations are all around us.
