Thought For The Day – Tuesday 13th December 2023
Rainbow Laces
A number of sporting organizations have recently supported the “Rainbow Laces” campaign.
This is an annual event, which started in 2013, in support of the LGBTQ+ community. It supports increasing diversity in sports across the world.
Players are able to support for the LGBTQ+ community by wearing rainbow laces and captains are able to demonstrate their encouragement by wearing a multicoloured armband, replacing their original armband.
The theme this year is “Lace Up To Keep It Up” as equality, diversity and inclusion continues to be promoted through commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community.
We show allyship, respect and empathy to, and for, one another.
So many sporting clubs have LGBTQ+ supporters clubs, with Pride flags being displayed in grounds.
It is everyone’s game.
The link below is to a wonderful interview, from 2017, as the statue of Alan Turing looks on in the background, with Andrew Lumsden.
Andrew was an inspirational and wonderful trailblazer for LGBTQ+ rights in the U.K. and worked on, and helped organise, the first Pride celebrations and marches.
Andrew passed away in November, aged 82
