Thought For The Day – Monday 15th January 2024 – M.L.K. Day
On 15th January, 95 years ago, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was born. He was killed, aged 39, in 1968. In his short and beyond inspiring life, Dr. King achieved centuries of work and an eternal legacy.
Every year, on the nearest Monday to his birthday, Martin Luther King Day takes place in America. Giving back to the community, in honour of M.L.K. is encouraged. Numerous tributes will be made.
Dr. King’s message was one of love, justice, peace and non-violence.
This is a timeless message, for all peoples and places, that stands against hate, violence and negative prejudice and discrimination.
“We still have a choice today: nonviolent coexistence or violent co-annihilation. This may well be our last chance to choose between chaos and community”, wrote Dr. King.
Very much an unsung hero was Coretta Scott King. Martin was married to Coretta who was absolutely vital to the mission, momentum and movement. Coretta, who passed away in 2006 aged 78, was an exceptional leader also.
Both Coretta and Martin showed the greatest resilience and selflessness.
Their legacy was continued by their wonderful children, Yolanda King (who passed away in 2007), Martin Luther King III, Dexter King and Dr. Bernice A King (who all still continue to lead and inspire today). We pay tribute to their work also.
