Thought For The Day – Friday 3rd November 2023
Roots and Wings
One week today will be our annual Remembrance Service. This moving occasion will feature messages, readings, prayers, music and period of silence as the school comes together.
This will precede Remembrance, or Armistice, Day on 11th November and Remembrance Sunday on 12th November. The U.K. will fall silent to remember, reflect and respect at 11 a.m. on both days, as TBSHS will on Friday 10th November.
Poppies will continue to be available at TBSHS.
Poppies are traditionally worn on our left-hand side, symbolizing closeness to the heart.
This moment provides a very good opportunity to reflect on. and talk about, our personal and collective history.
It is because of our ancestors, carers, family and community in the past that we are here today.
They are our heart.
Our present and future is nothing, and does not exist, without our past.
As regards who we are today, we owe the greatest debt of gratitude to those who came before us, those who give, and gave, us an opportunity and opportunities.
We never forget our roots, our journey and our story.
We pay their legacy forward and pay them back. Today and always.
We are given roots and wings.
It is because of our roots that we are given wings.
