Thought For The Day – Monday 6th November 2023
Poppies In The Field
Today is the United Nations’ International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in Conflict and War.
This day, established in 2021, seeks to make people aware of the consequences on the environment of all conflict, violence and war throughout history.
This can be seen in abuse, displacement, water pollution, poisoned soil, the destruction of animals, crops and forests, resource competition and exploitation and the destructive use of technology.
Today is part of a holistic and wider challenge, message and mission for all times and contexts, which at TBSHS we describe as “Black, Gold and Green”, to care for, and think about, the environment each day.
As we chose to wear the natural symbol of the beautiful poppy, now plastic-free, we remember, respect and care for the beauty, importance, and sanctity, of the natural environment, and all the humble and kind good that inhabits it, and has inhabited it.
