Teacher of Business Studies and Economics (Full or part time)
Required for September 2023
MPS/UPS + London Fringe Allowance
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Business Studies and Economics teacher to join our successful department. The appointed candidate would be expected to have excellent subject knowledge, contribute to the teaching of both Business Studies and Economics and get involved in the department’s extra-curricular offer. We have a very supportive and tight-knit team who are focused on delivering the very best learning opportunities for our students.
As well as a Business Foundation course in Year 9, the department offers Business Studies at GCSE and A-Level and Economics at A-Level. Results were very strong in 2022: in Business Studies, of the 77 GCSE candidates, 52% gained a grade 7+ and at A-Level 80% of the 44 candidates gained A*, A or B. In Economics, there were 37 entries and a 65% A*-B pass rate. The successful applicant would be expected to teach Business Studies to GCSE and at least one of Business Studies or Economics to A-Level. It is a well-resourced department with desk-top computers in each of the three classrooms.
We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.
Educating approximately 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. We have achieved a positive Progress 8 score every year since the measure was introduced, which compares very favourably to a national average for boys of -0.28. At A-Level, we had a 74% A* – B pass rate in 2022, 66% in 2021 and 61% in 2020. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.
We are due to re-locate in 2024, to a brand new ‘state of the art’ school on a new site less than half a mile from our current location. This exciting project will provide us with a fantastic new learning environment, supported by cutting edge technology, and huge opportunities for the future.
The school provides a supportive environment in which both newly qualified and experienced teachers have excellent opportunities to develop their careers. A formidable range of extra-curricular activities are available to students which include numerous overseas trips, languages exchanges, cultural visits, first class fixture cards in all major sports, a diverse and high-quality music and drama programme, DofE, debating, public speaking and much more.
