David Wickens (1992 -2000)
The School were very saddened to hear of the sudden death of David Wickens (TBSHS 1992-2000) on the 8th June 2018 in Dubai.
David was a former Head Boy (1998), and went up to Selwyn College, Cambridge, to read History, before working as an International Manager with HSBC. His work took him to postings around the world including Moscow, Hong Kong, Delhi, New York and finally Dubai.
He was the son of long-serving former TBSHS Teacher Ian Wickens, and leaves a wife and two children.
Former Head of History, Peter Oxley said “In an outstanding year his star shone the brightest. He had an incisive intellect but it was always coupled with a down-to-earth approach to school and life and a dry sense of humour which made him so popular with everyone- something to do with his Yorkshire roots? He never missed out on an opportunity to try out new experiences. I remember pacing the corridors of our hotel in St Petersburg after midnight only to find him in boots and coat about to rendezvous with 2 other sixth formers on their way to visit a basement bar next to the hotel to taste the local vodka! The last time perhaps we met he treated me to tea in the Cambridge University Library as he regaled me with tales of his fellow undergraduates and his lecturers. He was wonderful company.”
