Doing The Extra
T.B.S.H.S. is not about doing the minimum.
Instead, we do, and always have done, the extra.
We see that all around us every day with our new school, now in its third year. This is a true testimony to the massive extra dedication of: Mr. Reeve; Ms. Engel; the Senior Leadership Team; Mr. Fordham, Mr. Stock, and all the Governors of T.B.S.H.S., as well as local leaders and supporters.
Doing the extra is integral to our values: aspiration, commitment, respect, integrity, and community.
We do the extra in our studies.
We do the extra at home and in the community.
We do the extra with extra-curricular activities, another vital aspect of our truly all-round education.
This evening, after school, auditions will take place for the School Show. The first picture above shows last year’s epic production, “Our House”, an outstanding example of a team of students and staff, supported by wonderful audiences, doing the extra.
This lunchtime our school charity group, Interact, will meet in Room C05 at 1:25 p.m.. Former Year 11 student Isaac Jones, pictured above on G.C.S.E. Results Day 2026, and, with Fin Macfie, backstage at “Showcase”, achieved brilliant examination results, worked on, or performed in, every concert and drama production, and was a leader, and inspirer, of school charity. Every box superbly ticked. By doing the extra.
We do the extra in everything we do. Details matter. All student, and new staff, photographs take place tomorrow, Thursday the 10th of September. As always, we ensure we are smart, professional, and well-mannered, impressing the photographers, our guests, with politeness and thank yous. The top button of student blazers should be fastened. On Thursday, photographs will take place at the following times: 8:35 a.m. (for Year 10); 9:10 a.m. (for Year 12); 9:40 a.m. (for Year 7); 10:10 a.m. (for Year 9); 11:00 a.m. (for Year 8); 11:30 a.m. (for Year 11); and 12:00 p.m. (for Year 13). Students, led by teachers to Courtyard 1, should give their barcodes to the photographers. Thank you very much to Mrs. Miles for organising this.
Whether in school, or in life outside, and beyond, school, the extra, seemingly little, things make the big, and extra, difference.
Doing the extra means giving more.
Doing the extra means showing empathy, love, resilience, and support, in times of challenge.
Some challenges are beyond words and the extra care of all is, and will be, very much needed.
Doing the extra is not easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is or was.
Doing the extra can make someone’s day and help them through. Words of extra appreciation, encouragement, and recognition can mean the world.
When it is our time to do the extra, which is every time, for others and ourselves, we step up.
For, in doing the extra, we get back what we give, though we do the extra to give not to get.
What extra things, for others and ourselves, are we going to do today, this week, this month, this year, and in our lives ahead?
