Thought For The Day – Tuesday 29^th September 2026

“But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice (University)  play Texas?   We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade, and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”   (President John F. Kennedy, address at Rice University, the United States of America, the 12^th of September, 1962).

As we near the end of the first month of the new season, we can reflect on the start we have made to the new academic year.

What has gone well, so far?

What do we need to enhance and improve?

What are our goals?

How are we moving forward?

What, and who,  is our purpose, our motivation, our why?

The decisions we make now, and the work we do at this point, benefit us in the days, weeks, and months to come.

And not just this season, but in seasons to come.

The days are long, but the years are short.

In all this, we remember that our ultimate goals, and responsibilities, are goodness, kindness, manners, respect, and values.

On our journey, and journeys, we are powered by commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity, and community.

We care for, and are cared by,  others.

We are inspired by those we love.
