How do we receive, and interpret, information, and news, in our lives and in the world?
How do we know such information, and news, are true?
How do we guard against disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation?
Do we question information and news?
The historical, literacy, literary, mathematical, oracy, and scientific skills learnt in subjects are vital for the goodness and health of the future, and the present.
They are key to democracy.
We check, double check and triple check, applying a “hermeneutic of suspicion”. Including with these messages here.
Once we establish the truth, the veracity, of information, and news, how are moral values demonstrated in response?
And how do we look after the mental, and physical, health of everyone, and ourselves, on this journey? Treating others as we wish ourselves to be treated.
Today, Monday the 28th of September, is “World News Day”.
The theme of this day for 2026 is: “Know the facts. Understand what matters. Choose Trusted Journalism”.
Today, very appropriately , is also the “International Day for Universal Access to Information”.
“World News Day” connects to this.
The United Nations theme of today is: “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The role of access to information in addressing information disorder”.
In our digital world of data, indeed in any era, Integrity, and Truth, matters.
Data, knowledge, technology, and life generally, is not enough on its own.
Values are needed.
