Thought For The Day – Tuesday 25th June 2024
Every Single Day Is Precious
Friday was World Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Awareness Day.
6 people are diagnosed a day with MND. 6 people die a day from MND a day. There is currently no cure for MND.
Friday also saw the first home game for the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team since the passing of their legendary former player and coach Rob Burrow CBE from MND.
As well as raising vital awareness for MND, outstanding tributes were paid before, during and after a game which was attended by Rob Burrow’s wife Lindsey, their children and Rob’s parents. It was a brilliant and moving occasion and a true reflection of player, person, family, club, sport, community and life.
By chance, poignantly, the game was played between Leeds and Leigh, the same teams Rob’s father took his young son to see for his first ever rugby match.
Leeds played in a kit designed by Cath Muir, who has MND, and the team gave a very inspiring performance, which they dedicated to Rob and Rob’s family.
As an advocate for the MND community, and person, Rob Burrow, the showed the same brilliance, creativity, fearlessness, passion, good humour, inspiration, resilience and skill he demonstrated as a superb player.
On the day after his passing, a multi-million pound MND Centre in Leeds, which Rob Burrow and his very good friend and former fellow Leeds player Kevin Sinfield CBE, an inspirational leader himself, had driven with fundraising, a friendship and partnership depicted on the Leeds’ kit on Friday evening, began to be built. This will help so many people for many years to come. Rob Burrow selflessly thought of others and the very many people who suffer MND.
