Thought For The Day – Tuesday 11th June 2024
Carers Week
This week is Carers Week in the U.K.
Carers Week highlights the truly outstanding contributions that unpaid carers make to their families, friends and communities.
Carers Week also raises important awareness of the challenges carers, and those brilliant people being cared for, face.
In a school and society context, we pay a particular tribute to the many young carers.
Who is a carer? Anyone is a carer who looks after a family member or friend with a physical or mental challenge, or someone who needs additional support because of age or circumstance.
This is true love. But such goodness should never be taken for granted.
Carers, and those whom they support, are both wonderful.
Such care, challenges and love brings with it such significant commitment and sacrifice.
Carers Week not only celebrates those who are cared for, like any good society valuing the vulnerable, but also, equally importantly, raises our vital collective community consciousness of those who care in the U.K. and globally.
Such gracious, giving, humble, kind, quiet, unsung, understated and wonderful people can be too often invisible. So, it is important provide a platform, give a voice and make those caring and loving, and equally those cared for and loved, appreciated, empowered, supported and visible. Carers themselves also need cared for.
The leadership of carers, and those cared for, is totally inspirational.
The theme for Carers Week 2024 is: “Putting Carers on the Map.”
