Thought For The Day – Thursday January 11th 2024
Here We Grow
This message applies to every year group as we reflect on the past, present and future.
Thank you very much to Year 11 for their hard work for, and especially conduct in, the practice, or mock, examinations before Christmas.
Thank you also to the staff examinations team for their organisation and to the teaching staff for marking these scripts over the past three weeks.
Today, and tonight at the carer, parent, staff and student consultation evening, Year 11 students will receive important and invaluable feedback from those examinations to guide, and inspire, lesson and home study in the weeks ahead.
The honesty, integrity and reflection of this process plants the seed for beautiful summer growth. Winter gives way to spring and summer. “Here We Grow” is the title of a chapter about his roots in the autobiography of David Dein M.B.E.
If your examinations went relatively well at this stage, keep going, stay humble, see where you can improve further, thank and help and support others.
If you are disappointed with how your examinations went, or you felt you left a few marks out there, keep a healthy perspective, appreciating that things are a journey, but do your balanced and measured analysis, listen to and act on the feedback given, and make those small but important steps for improvement each day and week so that you are happy with your outcomes on results day, and beyond.
Always remember, the margin between levels and grades is very tight. A few more marks, especially over a number of papers, makes a massive difference. It only takes a second to score a goal. Effective revision and examination technique is a vital key to success.
Furthermore, progress is different for different students in different subjects. Everyone has unique, valued and valuable gifts. Everyone is precious.
And everyone has challenges, challenges that others may not see.
We know our identity, journey and story and we stick to our process. We play our game and walk our path.
This is all driven by the heart as well as the head.
In life, doing your best, looking after others, and yourself, and being a good person, is the foundation of everything.
Thank you to carers and parents for their continued and wonderful support.
For them, we all work and do our best. To them, we all give back.
