Thought For The Day – Thursday 28th March 2024
Thank You
As we reach the end of another excellent term, so wonderfully documented in “The Mitre”, beautifully crafted by Mrs. Miles and Mrs. Radford, and wonderfully celebrated in today’s Final Assembly, meticulously organized by Mr. Griffiths, we thank everyone, all students, carers, parents and staff, for their brilliant contributions.
These outstanding contributions of aspiration, commitment, respect, integrity and community have been shown in: engaging and enlightening lessons; important assessments, home and private study, preparation, projects and revision; a plethora of extra-curricular activities; superb educational visits; thoughtful school and community projects; and generally being a caring and good citizen and person everywhere. We pay tribute to anyone who has been going through a particularly challenging time. As always, we greatly thank the leadership of TBSHS.
In Christianity, today is Maundy Thursday, which remembers Jesus’ Last Supper. The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word mandatum, meaning to command. It recalls the words of Jesus: “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another”. In Islam, since 11th March, Muslims, including many of our students, have been observing the holy month of Ramadan, not drinking or eating in daylight hours, to respect Allah, to remember the giving of The Qu’an and to empathise with the poor. On Monday of this week, in Hinduism, the colourful festival of Holi celebrated love and new beginnings. Similar themes of goodness, and helping those in need, are celebrated in the Jewish festival of Passover in just under one month’s time.
Compassion, goodness, kindness, peace and love is universal for all communities, cultures, locations, places and peoples. It applies both “in person” and “on-line”.
The beauty and resilience of Winter now transitions into the hope and positivity of Spring.
We wish, and caringly plan, for the present and future, staying emotionally intelligent, hard-working, honest, humble, inclusive, kind, giving and respectful.
Always remember: your superpower; your resilient story; your memorable journey; your unique gifts; the support you have, and the support you give; treasuring good memories and moments; sharing any concerns; and never forgetting those who came before you, being inspired every day by those whom you will always love.
Thank you for everything.
