Kindness Wins Day

Today is “Kindness Wins Day”.
Kindness means being caring, compassionate, generous, helpful and thoughtful to others.
Kindness is essential and integral to our school values of respect, integrity and community.
A kind word and action to another person can make more of a difference than we realise. Kindness really can make someone’s day, week, month, year and life. We treat others as we wish to be treated.
Kindness also makes the giver happy too, as we contribute to something greater than ourselves.
Kindness is often about the little actions and words that make such a big difference.
How do we show kindness?
“Kindness Wins Day” is a charity founded by the American tennis player Madison Keys. Madison Keys, who has been a professional tennis player since the age of fourteen, is someone greatly respected for her outstanding ethics, kindness, positivity, sportspersonship and values, as well as her brilliant tennis. In a very narrow semi-final loss at the U.S. Open last week, Madison Keys’ first action and thought was to go to her opponent’s side of the net to congratulate and embrace her. In Madison’s disappointment, she respected and thought of others and showed kindness.
Kindness is seen locally, nationally and internationally.
Kindness is seen in everyday situations and challenges beyond words.
We especially think about those showing the greatest kindness in the most difficult of situations beyond words in Libya.
Flooding in eastern Libya, caused by a storm which saw months of rain falling in a day, has left thousands of people dead or missing in villages, towns and city. Two dams burst in the port city of Derna. More than 5,300 bodies have so far been recovered in Derna. This number is expected to rise. At least 34,000 people have been displaced.
Rival governments are working together. Rescue workers, international emergency teams and humanitarian aid organisations, such as Red Crescent (pictured below) and The United Nations, are helping those in need, showing kindness.
