Wings To Heaven
This week at TBSHS, three core, foundational and fundamental subjects are celebrated.
These are subjects that are essential in themselves.
These subjects connect to one another.
Overarchingly, these subjects are integral to all other subjects, and the integrity, morality and positivity of life, and society, itself.
In the third month, on the fourteenth day, tomorrow, it is the International Day of Mathematics. This is known as “Pi Day” after the mathematical, and indeed life, constant of π, Pi, which is, approximately, 3.14, with, of course, the number of digits after the decimal point being endless and infinite. How many of those proceeding digits do you know and can you remember? The theme World Mathematics Day 2025 is: “Mathematics, Art and Creativity”, signposting the illuminating, inter-disciplinary, imaginary, innovative and integral identity, and ideas, of Mathematics.
This week is also Science Week in the United Kingdom. This celebrates the continued critical and crucial importance, and positive impact, of science in our lives, past, present and future. The theme of Science Week this year is very appropriately: “Change and Adapt”. This theme is also key to, and ingrained in, life itself.
Finally, today, 13th March, the English department at TBSHS welcome the wonderful and wise “The Globe Players” once again. “The Globe Players” will perform some of the epic, and enlightening, work of William Shakespeare. In doing so, “The Globe Players” preserve such an important and treasured legacy. Like Mathematics and Science, the timeless literary work Shakespeare, through drama, language, performance, poetry and story, also addresses eternal, everyday and profound truths.
All the subjects above will be with us, as companions and guides, throughout our lives.
We pay tribute to, and thank, all who study and teach, and all who have studied and taught in, and are influenced and inspired by, these crucial life-affirming and life-changing areas. At TBSHS and way beyond.
