Thought For The Day – Monday 9th March 2026
International Women’s Day
Sunday 8th March is/ was International Women’s Day.
Every day is, and should be, International Women’s Day.
The origin of this global day goes back to the journey to true equality.
And still.
The very appropriate theme of International Women’s Day this year is: “Give To Gain”.
International Women’s Day is an important day to celebrate, highlight, make visible, recognize, deeply respect, learn from, and be inspired by the wonderful contributions and stories of women and girls.
International Women’s Day is also a day to raise awareness of the evil of sexism and misogyny, experienced in person, and on-line, and to commit to vital positive action in thoughts, words and deeds, every day, to eradicate, and stand against, this.
As a Year 10 student of T.B.S.H.S. brilliantly said in a Citizenship lesson at T.B.S.H.S. in 2021:
“It is not men versus women. It is not women versus men. It is everyone versus the problem.”
What kind of world do you/we want for mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, partners, friends, and colleagues?
What kind of a world do you/we want for everyone?
Even those we do not know.
What kind of a world do you/we want for ourselves?
A society which is not sexist and which is not misogynistic helps, supports, and respects anyone and everyone.
A sexist and misogynistic society disrespects and harms anyone and everyone.
At The Bishop’s Stortford High School, we stand with women and girls locally, nationally, and internationally to create a better community, society, and world.
Who are your female guides, role models, leaders, and inspirations?
Family always.
For ever and a day.
And beyond.
