Thought For The Day – Monday 8^th June 2026

At The Bishop’s Stortford High School, opportunities, which we pride ourselves on,  continue this week.

Year 7 students are embarking on their brilliant “Bushcraft” week.

As well as lessons this week, Year 8 students will experience an enlightening educational visit to William Shakespeare’s “The Globe” theatre.  Later this week, Year 8 students will also learn from a Careers Day.

Year 9 students have been enjoying cricket in Guernsey in the last few days. Year 9 students have the opportunities of cultural visits to Germany this week, and London in two weeks’ time, alongside their lessons.

Year 10 students have their outstanding work experience week.  This is a fabulous opportunity for their futures as we always keep in mind the vital importance of employment.

Year 12 students will also have work experience opportunities next week, after their important “Gateway” examinations this week.

Year 11 and Year 13 continue their external examinations, heading closer to “the home straight” and “the finish line”. For some students sitting these examinations,  the bell is about to ring, signaling the final lap and the final effort. Other students are heading into the middle of their event, digging deep, keeping up the pace, leaving everything out there, always observing the vital rules of the game and always giving their best.

All the above experiences, provided by the staff, supported by careers, guardians, and parents, and participated in by students,  create and nurture the future as students blossom and flourish beyond The Bishop’s Stortford High School.

It was interesting to meet, by chance,  the father of one of our former students, Michael,  in a supermarket on Saturday morning.  He is also father-in-law of another of our former students, Susanna, for Susanna and Michael married some time after they left T.B.S.H.S. over twenty years ago.   Michael and Susanna work, and travel, globally.

Congratulations also to two of our former students,  Ben Warren and Ollie Broughton.  

Ben and Ollie, pictured below, thanks to “Bishop’s Stortford Independent”,  were selected to play rugby union for the Hertfordshire Under 20s men’s team in the “Jason Leonard County Championship National Final” at Twickenham stadium on Saturday. The brilliant picture above is from their opponents, East Midlands.

The Hertfordshire rugby team are known as “The Stags”.  The stag is the official emblem of Hertfordshire. The name of the county town, Hertford, is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word “heort-ford”, meaning a “deer, or stag, crossing”.

The Hertfordshire Under 20s men’s rugby team state on their website that they “aim to foster a culture of growth, camaraderie, and excellence, both on and off the field.”

At T.B.S.H.S. too, we continue to represent, both now, and in the future.

The world is a land of opportunity.
