Thought For The Day – Monday 21^st September 2026

Today is the International Day of Peace.

The important theme for 2026 is: “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”.

Peace is external.

Peace is, of course,  an absence of conflict, war, and violence.

Such external Peace also involves the balance, dignity,  harmony, justice, respect, safety, value, and well-being,  of others and ourselves.

Peace is also internal.

For Peace is found within, as well as without.

Peace starts with us, our thoughts, and our actions.

Inner Peace.

Peace at the centre.

In a message for today, the Secretary-General of the United Nations,  António Guterres, states: “On this International Day of Peace, let us all be inspired by the courage of those who champion Peace in neighbourhoods, classrooms, and communities. And let us call on world leaders to invest in a peaceful future for all people.”

How are we spreading Peace in our lives?

Cultural empathy, respect, and understanding are essential to, and for, Peace.

“Peace can only be achieved by understanding”, said Albert Einstein.

This week is Languages Week at The Bishop’s Stortford High School. Thank you to the Languages department at T.B.S.H.S. for all the opportunities, at home and abroad, they so wonderfully provide all year round, including this week.
