Thought For The Day – Monday 17th June 2024
Grenfell Heart
On Friday evening, Grenfell Tower, and the London Eye, were illuminated in green to remember the Grenfell Tower fire, seven years ago.
The word Grenfell is an adaptation of the words “green field“, the site of Grenfell, resulting in the colour green being chosen to symbolise this wonderful community.
On the morning of June 14th 2017, people woke up to pictures of Grenfell Tower, in North Kensington, on fire.
Grenfell Tower was tower of apartments or flats, which was a very well-known feature of the London cityscape.
72 people, including 18 children, lost their lives that night and early morning.
So many were, and have been, traumatized.
We cannot even imagine their massive fear, loss and trauma.
Two days after the tragedy, in 2017, Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince William, visited Grenfell to speak with survivors, relatives of those who died, volunteers and workers for the emergency services: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-62932505
The seventh anniversary of the tragedy, on Friday, provided an opportunity for reflection and remembrance of, and solidarity with, all those affected.
Members of the community participated in a silent walk to remember the victims.
