Thought For The Day – Friday 28th February 2025
Together
Preparations are under way for Ramadan.
Ramadan, the holy month of Islam (a religion which means peace gained by following Allah), will begin soon, when the crescent moon is sighted.
In Ramadan, Muslims fast (Sawm). This is “better than 1,000 months” states the Qur’an chapter 97, in reference to the evening in Ramadan (“The Night of Glory” or “The Night of Power”), which remembers the giving of the Qur’an, the Word of Allah in Islam.
Fasting is an act of worship, spiritual discipline, dedication and devotion to God.
In the month of Ramadan, Muslims strive not to eat, or drink, anything in daylight hours. The fast is broken at sunset with a family meal and prayers.
In Ramadan, Muslims remember, and pray, to Allah, giving thanks for the revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who faithfully observed Sawm.
In this month, Muslims empathize with the poor and vulnerable.
Muslims will also read the Qur’an throughout the month.
Islam is a faith of peace, love, compassion and understanding. The sick and ill, children, pregnant, breastfeeding and menstruating women, and travellers, are exempt.
Human and environmental need, health and wellbeing always comes first in life.
We keep in our thoughts Muslims in these, and all, times.
We equally keep in our thoughts in these, and all, times all members of all respectful cultural, ethical, faith and religious communities locally, nationally and globally.
For we are one community and one world.
Tomorrow, March 1st, is World Zero Discrimination Day.
“Zero Discrimination Day”, organised by the United Nations, occurs on this date each year.
The theme for 2025 is: ‘We Stand Together”.
“Zero Discrimination Day” educates and encourages people to promote equality, inclusion, compassion, justice, kindness, peace, and change for the betterment of everyone.
This starts with us here at TBSHS.
Today and every day.
