The Headteacher of The Bishop’s Stortford High School, Mr Reeve, completed the “Lakes In A Day Ultra Run From Caldbeck to Cartmel” on Saturday.
Mr Reeve completed this beyond demanding, run of fifty miles on very challenging terrain at 23:29 on Saturday evening of the 8th October. Mr Reeve posted an incredible and enduring time of 15:29:40. A truly super Saturday.
This event took place in the Lake District in Cumbria, a gem of the world.
Through his epic challenge, Mr Reeve has selflessly raised funds for the very exciting, historic and ground-breaking new educational facilities at The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
The Lakes in A Day race is 50 miles and 4000m ascent – a journey on foot from the very top of the Lake District at Caldbeck to the very bottom, at Cartmel, via the stunning Helvellyn Ridge and the western shoreline of Lake Windermere. It might not be the easiest traverse but it is the most spectacular!
Mr Reeve has, so far, raised an astonishing amount of £8,600 for the all-weather pitch at our new School site.
Beforehand, Mr Reeve said “It is going to be quite a challenge and I know I’m going to be a long way outside of my comfort zone, but as I regularly talk to the students about resilience I thought I should model it.
Although I enjoy running and have taken in part in three ultramarathons previously, this is much further and tougher than anything I’ve done before. The official time limit is 24 hours, but just to add a little more pressure I have set a personal goal of completing it in 16 hours.”
On Monday Mr Reeve added, “The race was very much an endurance event with few opportunities to run on flat, even surfaces. I found the long mountain section particularly gruelling, with the downhill parts proving as much of a challenge as the uphill sections. Whilst the scenery was beautiful, there was little time to take a breath and appreciate it. A lot of the course was on boggy moorland and passed through several streams, a river and the shallows of lake Windermere, but despite the wet my feet held up quite well. After what was eventually 52miles, it was a huge relief to finally see the finish line and I was delighted to make it home just inside my target time. I’m extremely grateful for all the kind words of encouragement and very generous sponsorship received from so many of our brilliant school community over the last few weeks. Thank you! Whilst I’m feeling pretty sore now, the wonderful funds raised towards sports facilities at the new school site makes it all worthwhile. The total has passed £7,235 (£8,600 with Gift Aid), which is absolutely fantastic.”
