Leo Patsalides (1997-99) performed the Grieg Piano Concerto at TBSHS in 1998, aged 17, with the Amici Orchestra at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge, conducted by Mr McConnell (formerly Head of Music, then a member of English staff) the Amici Orchestra, led by Stuart Middleton (4-time winner of the music prize).
Leo pursued a career as a professional musician, and is now a conductor and Artistic Director of the Amati Orchestra (www.amatiorchestra.com). Almost 20 years after performing the Grieg at TBSHS, he conducted it for the first time last month (March 2016) with soloist Mariko Brown.
