Thought For The Day – Monday 16th January 2023
Happy MLK Day
Today is Martin Luther King Day. This is the nearest Monday to Reverend Dr King’s birthday, which was yesterday.
Commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community are personified and exemplified in Martin’s inspirational story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewJb8obYOKs (BBC Teach video)
In remembering MLK’s inspirational example, we also remember the life and legacy of Coretta Scott King, who was married to Martin Luther King.
Some quotes by Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Junior:
- “The time is always right to do what is right.”
- “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
- “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”
- “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
- “Our lives begin to end when we are silent about the things that matter.”
- “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.”
- “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.”
