Thought For The Day: Tuesday 13th September 2022
Be A Good Human
Queen Elizabeth II saw so much change, progress and challenge in her epic reign.
This informative “Sky News” video gives a glimpse of the last seventy years:
Queen Elizabeth II is pictured above, with the great Mr. Nelson Mandela, in 1996.
Throughout, Queen Elizabeth II was centred, inspired by timeless moral and ethical values.
Precisely because of this moral anchor, Queen Elizabeth could embrace change securely, wisely, thoughtfully, humbly and respectfully.
Queen Elizabeth II’s numerous meetings in the pandemic went virtual. Even on her penultimate day in this life, it was said Queen Elizabeth II wanted to virtually meet government ministers, but was advised by doctors to rest.
It was because of her moral values that the Queen used her platform wonderfully for others and never for herself.
“Let us not take ourselves too seriously. None of us has a monopoly of wisdom and we must always be ready to listen and respect other points of view”, once said Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth II epitomized these words. Listening, engagement and respect were hallmarks. Humour too. “Aren’t you meant to look as though you are enjoying yourself?”, said Queen Elizabeth II as the G7 world leaders lined up for a photograph at the 2021 Cornwall Summit. Two particularly wonderful, and humorous, memories, which embraced also change, were complete surprises. One we all experienced at the Platinum Jubilee:
Another was ten years earlier at the London 2012 Olympics:
Ultimately, life is all about being a good human. We are all learning.
“Do your best to be a good person and say your prayers at night” were words shared at the weekend that Queen Elizabeth II strived to live by.
‘To be inspirational you don’t have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special”, said Queen Elizabeth II.
Never forget the good humans and heroes that are also all around us and you, and we, can be someone else’s good human and hero.
Let us continue Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s inspirational, unique and outstanding legacy in every area of life.
