Thought For The Day – Wednesday 30th September 2026
Heart To Heart
Yesterday, the 29th of September, was “World Heart Day”. The theme for this year was and is: “Do Not Miss A Beat”.
The Heart is, of course, an essential organ of, to, and for, the human body.
The British Heart Foundation state that, each day, the Heart beats around 100,000 times, pumping around 5 litres of blood round the body, through a network of blood vessels called arteries and veins.
As such, oxygen, and nutrients, are delivered around to body, enabling lungs, organs, and muscles to function.
In all this, the Heart helps maintain stable blood pressure so blood moves in a timely manner, whilst the Heart’s “internal electrical system” sets a regular, and steady, heartbeat rate.
Equally remarkably, blood, pumped by the Heart, also carries away unwanted carbon dioxide and waste products.
All this means it is very important, through a healthy lifestyle, such as good diet, sleep, and blood pressure checks, and medical appointments if unwell, to look after our Heart, and the Hearts of others.
Equally importantly, in an area where every second and minute counts, is the vital support, and resources, offered when someone is very unwell, through First Aid and the Ambulance, including the Air Ambulance, Emergency and Healthcare Services.
For example, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or C.P.R., is an important emergency lifesaving procedure performed when a person’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. This B.B.C. Key Stage P.S.H.E. video, presented by a Doctor, explains this vital process: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/articles/zrkgydm
Sometimes, tragically, all the above is not always available or possible. Globally, one in three deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease.
In the week of World Heart Day, we deeply think of people, and their families, who have suffered because of Heart conditions, including undiagnosed Heart conditions. We also deeply think of all who care, and have cared, for those who suffer and have suffered Heart conditions.
With very grateful thanks once again to Mr. Cooper, Interact’s “Food Friday”, at break time this coming Friday, will raise money for The British Heart Foundation in memory of all these wonderful people.
