Thought for the Evening and the Summer 

Thank you to all who: led;  read; spoke;  organised; played; sang;  were recognised by; participated in, and supported today’s memorable Final Assembly.

It was such a very fitting tribute to the sustained service and success of the whole School Community as a term, an academic year, and indeed a school, was illuminated, crystalising and symbolising “The Black, Gold, and Green Spirit”.

It was especially wonderful to hear the articulate, and insightful, tributes from students to staff departing The Bishop’s Stortford High School.

It was emotional and inspirational to hear the eloquent and motivating responses from Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Patterson. 

In Final Assembly, we also paid respectful tribute to Mrs. Blee who leaves T.B.S.H.S. to commence her teaching journey. Mrs. Blee has been a brilliant, caring,  enthusiastic, and positive Laboratory Technician, who has expertly supported, and organised, Science experiments and contributed thoughtfully to important Environmental, Health, and Scientific initiatives at T.B.S.H.S.. Mrs. Blee will be a fine teacher.

Today was an historic day in the history of The Bishop’s Stortford High School as we said farewell, never goodbye, to Mr. Patterson upon the occasion of Mr. Patterson’s retirement. Mr. Patterson has given his whole career of forty years, four decades,  to The Bishop’s Stortford High School.

In paying tribute, Fin Macfie, a Year 12 student, beautifully, and intuitively, read a poem, chosen by Mr. Reeve, and written by Philip Larkin, one of Mr. Patterson’s favourite poets, titled “Sympathy in White Major”.

As Mr. Reeve highlighted, the poem contained these very appropriate lines:

“How many Iives would have been duller

Had he not been here?”

We wish you a good, happy, healthy, kind, respectful, and safe Summer.   Look after others and look after yourself.  Thank you to the unsung heroes that are your parents and families.
