Thought For The Day – Wednesday 2nd April 2025
Inspirational Student Leadership
Pictured above: Mr. Reeve and Mr. Reynolds combine for the opening goal in this afternoon’s charity football match at our new “Field of Dreams”.
There are three important aspects of education: carers, guardians and parents; staff (at all educational communities) and students.
Each work together and support one another in a common cause. Each pass the baton of care, kindness, opportunity, nurture, respect and standards to the next.
We have, once again, seen a number examples in the last few weeks of positive and inspirational student leadership, building on the above fabulous foundations.
Vitally, student leadership has been demonstrated in performances, pieces, practicals, portfolios, programmes and projects connected to external, national and international examinations. So much deep, detailed and diligent work over such a length of time. You never ever forget these detailed pieces of work you take pride in.
Equally, other students at this educational stage have been completing, and revising, courses ready to begin their examinations in just a few weeks. Student leadership will be vital over the vacation. Whilst a balanced, healthy and restful approach will be needed, effective and efficient study, and time management, will be required for a proportionate amount of each day, whether at home or in a public library. Giving your best is all that matters. No regrets on Results Day.
Leadership is demonstrated at every level and in every area: in the corridors; in the classroom; in the community. We represent ourselves, our family and our community at all times.
Student leadership was exemplified these last few days in: Sixth Form Charity; Debating; Drama; House Football, the services at Saint Michael’s Church; Girls’ Football today; collecting Easter eggs for the “Food Bank”; this afternoon’s brilliant Charity Football Match, organized by students, especially Fin Macfie, Josh Tingley, Matthew Furrer, Isaac Tracey, Isaac Jones and Oliver Berry (pictured above in the high visibility jackets). The outstanding musicians of TBSHS are putting on yet another concert tonight. The annual Former Students’ Rugby Match will take place after Final Assembly. “Student” leadership continues well beyond TBSHS. Well beyond being a student in fact. That is the point. The past, and present, is the future.
Students lead to help others lead. Some Year 12 students are raising funds to support other students’ “Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards” in different parts of the country, who would not otherwise get the opportunity to lead: https://events.dofe.org/fundraisers/nomercy. What an outstanding initiative.
Students lead in so many ways. So very often resiliently, quietly, thoughtfully, compassionately. Everyone’s journey is unique and only the person truly knows. The “prize” for doing the right thing is doing the right thing. The ultimate rewards are, and will be, great.
Most important of all was the leadership, remembrance and respect shown by students last week to former students who have passed away from this life. Values are, and transcend, everything.
The forthcoming edition of “The Mitre”, edited once again by Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Radford and Mrs. Hunter, and Final Assembly, organized by Mr. Griffiths, will crystalise wonderful student leadership in this our second term at Beaumont Avenue
Which students positively inspire you?
Great and good student leaders appropriately inspire carers, guardians, parents and staff also.
Together, the culture is created and nurtured.
Leadership in depth.
