Thought For The Day – Wednesday 26th April 2023
Game Day Focus
The big match tonight in the men’s football English Premier League sees the top two teams in the league, Arsenal and Manchester City, play each other in a significant match. Radio commentary of the match is free to air.
A young and vibrant Arsenal side are having a wonderful season, massively exceeding expectations, whilst Manchester City once again have hit top form at this stage of the season, in attack and defence, when it matters most. As regards the managers and coaches, to a certain extent, the student plays the teacher.
Up and down all the leagues, there are decisive matches at this time of the year. This is true of many sports too, for example in basketball (pictured above). Each individual and team has a story based on their progress and situation. Bishop’s Stortford Football Club recently won their first league championship for 29 years. The Women’s Super League, the support of which is massively and rightly growing, also promises to be another epic finish, as it was last year.
In the academic world, this is also an important time of year as we enter examination season. Year 11 students have begun their Languages examinations this week, whilst Year 13 will be sitting Art examinations later this week. Further Year 11 and Year 13 examinations will follow. Results Day is in August and students will be aiming to have a good and proud day with no regrets.
Examinations this term in Years 7, 8, 10 and 12 are very important too as they are the building blocks for future success.
Ultimately, the season is not decided by one match but by many matches and training sessions.
Like in sport, focus, preparation and aspiration, supported by team and community, before the examinations is key, including balanced health, recovery, rest and relaxation.
As in sport, commitment, respect and integrity in the match itself is ultimately absolutely everything.
We must remember that in life, and in exams, our progress is relative and our best personal.
As with everything in life, the key is to do our best and be a good person, looking after others and ourselves.
