Thought For The Day – Wednesday 22nd May 2024
1 Love
Today is National Numeracy Day in the U.K.
Thank you to the Mathematics Department, and all departments and areas that teach, encourage and empower numeracy.
Numbers are a vital feature of life and our memories.
Numbers express facts, truth, emotions, memories, progress, positivity, value and loss.
Numeracy is important for our life and work. A lack of numeracy is as damaging as lack of literacy.
But numbers are not good in and of themselves alone. Integrity and morality remains key.
Behind each number is often a story, a context, name, a legacy, a truth.
We have seen that in recent days with the numbers, the ages, the lives and stories of the many thousands of people, of all generations, affected by, and who have suffered because of, the infected blood scandal.
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with all who have suffered beyond words, and who continue to suffer beyond words.
As they are with those who suffer violence. Today, the city of Manchester, and beyond, is remembering the 22 angels who lost their lives, and all who suffered, in the evil attack of 2017.
Manchester’s response to this was to encourage and practice “One Love”, bringing the many people in the community, and around the world, together as one.
