Thought For The Day – Wednesday 17th January 2024
C.S.K.
In remembering Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King this week, we remember Coretta Scott King.
“As you honour my father, I earnestly hope that you also remember and honour my mother.” (Dr. Bernice A. King, daughter of Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King, 15th January 2024)
Martin was married to Coretta. Coretta Scott King, who passed away in 2006 aged 78, was Martin’s partner in the struggle, bore the grief of his sudden and traumatic loss beyond words, and continued and enhanced his legacy through her inspirational words and actions, and those of their children.
Women were, and are, central to, and leaders of, the movement. After all, because Rosa Parks sat down, Martin Luther King stood up.
