Thought For The Day – Tuesday 6th February 2024
Safer Internet Day
Today is Safer Internet Day.
The 2024 theme is: “Inspiring change: Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online”.
The Internet has, of course, mostly been a wonderful invention, that has changed all our lives, mostly for good. We can find out about, and share, good and positive interests. It can bring people together and aid communication and understanding.
However, there are healthy and safe limits. We try not to live our lives through our ‘phones.
Furthermore, with great power comes great, and moral, responsibility.
For everything needs checked and is subject to ethics and morality. It is never a case of anything goes. Everyone has a moral duty. Goodness is everything.
It is absolutely vital that we are safe, legal, healthy, kind, respectful and good in our on-line choices, and that we share concerns, mistakes, stresses and worries.
It is equally absolutely vital that those in charge of the Internet, or large parts, or any part, of it, make the Internet safe, legal, kind, healthy and respectful.
This all includes social media which all too easily can become “anti-social media” and so very harmful and hurtful.
Division, exploitation, hate, lies, manipulation, toxicity and evil can be spread on-line.
Negative algorithms can be dangerous and harmful beyond words.
The vulnerable need protected and supported.
In recent times, truly inspirational citizens in the U.K., and around the world, have campaigned for, and made legal, more safety on-line.
