Thought For The Day – Tuesday 26th November 2024
White Ribbon Day
We hope you had a happy, and healthy, longer weekend, and are ready to go for the second half of this half term.
Yesterday was White Ribbon Day.
You may have seen people wearing a white ribbon.
White Ribbon Day marks the United Nations’ Day for the Elimination, and Prevention, of Violence Against Women and Girls.
Globally, report the United Nations, almost one in three women have been subjected to at least one form of violence at least once in their life.
70% of women in the U.K. report they have experienced sexual harassment in public.
In their campaign theme for this year, “It Starts With Men”, the charity “White Ribbon U.K.” engages men and boys to challenge and stop disrespectful, harmful, toxic and violent behaviour to women and girls and to stand against sexist and misogynistic attitudes.
“Toxic masculinity” is bad for all.
Our respectful behaviour and conduct needs to be on-line as well as in person.
Men and boys are encouraged to be allies for good.
We do not walk on by if we see disrespect, showing compassion and empathy, putting ourselves, and our family, in the shoes of people.
At The Bishop’s Stortford High School, we know, and live out, our responsibilities to stand against sexism and negative sex and gender prejudice and discrimination.
We are not “the boys’ high school”.
We are allies with women and girls.
Yesterday, today and always.
