Thought For The Day – Tuesday 10th January 2023
Helping People
Thank you very much indeed to students, staff and parents for all the inspiring and thoughtful charitable donations for those in need in the last week of last term.
Although we give with humility and selflessness, it is important to express gratitude as we think of others, especially those in need.
The 29 students who volunteered for bag packing raised a wonderful £818.20 for Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday 18th December for Rotary’s Christmas Collections for those in need. Mr. Stock, former Chair of Governors at TBSHS, current Rotarian and pillar of our local community, described your fundraising as “a truly impressive sum” and bag packers as a “showcase for the black and gold…ambassadors for the school, each and every one who took part on the day.” Thank you to Rotarian Mr. Hartley for his continued brilliant encouragement, inspiration, leadership and support. All Rotarians do such wonderful and inspiring work, and give so much valuable time, for others. In December, Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club provided £12,000 of food vouchers. There are often tears of joy when people receive these. Rotary work one year in advance with their tireless work.
Thanks to all students and all staff, over £316 was raised for Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank. The inspirational Jane Towns, from the foodbank, representing a fabulous team of volunteers, was most grateful for this “wonderful amount” (to quote Jane). In Christmas week alone, the food bank sent out more than 70 food parcels to various families, couples and individuals. The food bank also packed up over a hundred bags for families that The Salvation Army work with, and other bags for family centres, homeless individuals, and asylum seekers. Your donation also helped with fuel voucher requests.
Your donations for refugees from Ukraine were collected yesterday by superb local charity UK-Aid, who were very appreciative of everything you gave for people in continued massive need suffering war, invasion, abuse, displacement and loss.
Thank you for helping people.
