Thought For The Day – Thursday 5th December 2024 – Care at Christmas
Care at Christmas
Thank you to all who collected and donated on Tuesday to Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank, Bishop’s Stortford Night Shelter for the homeless and Rotary’s Christmas collections for those in need in our local area.
Thank you to all who have given to the wonderful toy appeal for those in need in the school library.
If you still wish to make a contribution to any of these causes, there is still time, though we know people give in their own ways and everyone has multiple demands at this time of year.
On Sunday 15th December, we will be bag packing in “Waitrose”, Bishop’s Stortford (other great supermarkets are available), to raise money for those in need in our locality. Here, we will also spread the Christmas and festive spirit by safely talking with members of the public, and wearing Santa hats with our uniform. Please e-mail if you wish to help for an hour or two.
Because, at all times of year, but particularly at this time of year, we think about those for whom these times are challenging beyond words.
For some people, 25th December, Christmas Day, is a very long day, if they wish to celebrate.
People may be going through financial, physical or physiological challenges, or all of these.
Some may be suffering themselves, or they may be missing someone who has passed away.
Some may be suffering conflict and environmental challenges.
And we do not forget those working, providing services, including emergency services, for others.
All these challenges are the case locally, nationally and internationally.
Care, compassion, empathy, respect and time is infinitely more valuable than money, though money is needed to live.
So, we safely and kindly reach out to others.
It starts with us.
Those safe acknowledgements, cards, conversations, greetings, telephone call check ins and just being present can make the world of difference.
They show we care.
Just taking a moment can mean the world.
In our busy lives, with so many distractions which pretend to be important, but which, when it comes to it, are not ultimately that all-important, the special things are the special things.
Time is precious. People, and the environment, are precious.
We treasure everyone and everything.
