Thought For The Day – Wednesday 4th December 2024
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Yesterday, December 3rd, was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This day highlights the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, while also celebrating their achievements and contributions to society.
The global pandemic made us aware that some disabilities are invisible and hidden.
The theme of this international day for 2024 is:
“Amplifying the leadership of disabled people for an inclusive and sustainable future”.
Chris Foster studied at TBSHS from 2001 to 2006.
Chris Foster played football and cricket for TBSHS.
Chris played football, safely but competitively, in lunch times in the playground at TBSHS. After school, in training in the Sports Hall, Chris was so often the spirit of the school.
Nothing could stop Chris. Chris was a leader in his year group, in and out of class.
Nationally and internationally, Chris has represented his country at three sports, including swimming, where he was a champion, and cricket.
Chris is now a professional golfer and golf coach.
Chris achieved, and achieves, all these things despite having one leg amputated aged nine, owing to bone cancer. Chris was initially diagnosed with cancer aged five. Chris never ever got down about this situation. Chris positively adapted, though it must have been very challenging beyond words.
Chris is pictured above.
In 2022 and, earlier this year, in 2024, Chris played in the Cairns Cup between Europe and the United States of America.
Chris is the first amputee to be a Professional Golf Association professional.
Chris is also now qualified to teach and coach golf.
Ever humble, Chris does not see himself as an inspiration. Chris only hopes his story helps others.
Chris is a leader of (dis) abled sport in the U.K. and in the world.
As Chris says: “Disability is not an inability.”
