Thought For The Day – Thursday 25th May 2023
Shine A Light
Thank you for continuing to show “The Black and Gold Spirit“ at all times, in all places and with all people. We represent our school, our family and ourselves in who we are and what we do. Every day is another step on our journey. Keep looking after others and yourself.
Stories of respect, resilience and responsibility in our community and globally inspire.
Anna Mae Bullock, Tina Turner, passed away yesterday. Tina Turner was an outstanding musician and performer, with a unique voice, who defied racism, sexism, ageism and many family and health challenges. Tina was a survivor of domestic, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, who went on to be an inspirational and iconic woman. Through all her life, Tina Turner spread positivity and happiness, “singing her truth through joy and pain, triumph and tragedy” to quote Barack and Michelle Obama. To quote the chorus of one her most famous songs, “The Best”, Tina Turner was “Simply the Best.”
Rob Burrow MBE and Kevin Sinfield OBE were exceptional rugby league players with Leeds Rhinos. When Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a very challenging illness which affects the brain and nerves, showing inspirational resilience, his friend was, and is, there for him. Kevin decided to run for charity, raising over 8 million pounds. At another fundraising event two weeks ago, Kevin ran whilst pushing Rob, who was in a wheelchair, around the course in Leeds. In a very emotional moment near the finish line, Kevin took Rob out of his wheelchair and carried Rob over the finish line with a kiss.
Globally, Felsted charity “UK-Aid” reported last week that they have delivered your donations to Ukraine, where so many families have lost homes and loved ones and many families and been displaced. The charity would be very grateful for any donations of second-hand clothes for all seasons and all ages, toiletries, tinned and dried food with a shelf life of six months, craft and games for children and appropriate medical supplies, as we keep Ukraine in our hearts. Please bring any items to Room 8.
We will be raising money tomorrow in the playground for our local food bank by selling refreshments.
