Thought For The Day – Thursday 25th June 2026
Welcoming Guests
A sign of a good community is how it welcomes new members of that community.
We have important guests in school today.
Of course, every guest is important. But, particularly, our guests today.
These guests are prospective Sixth Form students. They are visiting us, from an array of wonderful schools, including T.B.S.H.S., because it is “Sixth Form Induction”. We pay tribute to all those brilliant schools. All schools are very special places, proud of their unique story.
We are hospitable to our guests. We make this school feel like home to our guests. As the motto in hospitality states, people arrive as guests and leave as friends.
We are mindful that our guests have just completed a mammoth set of G.C.S.E. examinations. They truly deserve a wonderful, and the best, summer. Just as Year 13 students do.
Today, and tomorrow, we will need absolutely everyone, students from Years 7 to 12, and all staff, to play their vital part: helping guests if they appear lost; holding doors open for others; allowing others to go first; being mindful, and respectful, of guests in corridors; leaving every area of the School clean and tidy, including the toilets; being totally respectful, in words and actions, everywhere; ensuring uniform is smart; supporting cover and room changes (please see below). Our School once again needs all of us today and tomorrow.
We are on show today. We are on show every day.
We see beyond ourselves.
These are all important reminders for what we are doing, and should do, anyway.
But, when guests call, or when we are guests ourselves, it checks and sharpens those standards.
Just like we are looking out for the health and safety of ourselves in these very warm conditions, so we look out for others. Inside and outside school. “Are you o.k.?” is a very good question to ask at any time. School today and tomorrow is finishing early because of these conditions and that is a reminder for everyone to stay safe afterwards.
The Sixth Form are absolutely vital to The Bishop’s Stortford High School. The Sixth Form raise everyone’s level.
Thank you to the Sixth Form for all they have done, and continue to do, for all of us.
