Thought For The Day: Thursday 22nd September 2022
Student Leadership
Above: TBSHS at 8: 10 last evening. The cleaners were still in the building polishing floors for tonight.
Every day, and evening, is important at TBSHS. However, Prospective Parents’ Evening, or Open Evening, is a particularly important moment and event. The German for this evening, the school was once informed, literally translates as “The Night of The Open Door”.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share our school with future, and potential or prospective, students and parents. There will be a buzz around the school this evening.
Tonight is another great showcase of student leadership. Whether it be in class, in extra-curricular activities or in the community, student leadership is key. Staff are also vital to a school for they provide support, guidance, nurture, care, standards and expertise. But, whether in the classroom, on the field or on the stage, students then bring their magic and their respectful perspective to the learning. It was students, brilliantly supported by parents and staff, that achieved record-breaking results at TBSHS in the summer.
After Period 4, students will register before school finishes at 1:15 p.m. Please ensure you have left nothing on top of lockers and help the caretakers and cleaners, as always, by keeping the school tidy throughout today. Those students helping this evening will return to school at 5:00 p.m. At the close of the evening, at 8:15 p.m., students need to go home carefully and safely, keeping in contact with parents at all times and staying safe.
Please make sure your uniform is immaculate and you speak (oracy) with honesty, integrity, correctness and passion. Share your story. Be interested in, and engage with, our guests. Where are our guests from? What are they interested in? How can TBSHS be wonderful for them? Build the future. Spread “The Black and Gold Spirit”.
These are not just important skills for this evening. They are important skills for your life beyond TBSHS.
What is “The Black and Gold Spirit”? It is doing your very best, being honest and helping, caring for and serving others.
Thank you to all those students, and indeed staff, doing this tonight. It is very much appreciated and not taken for granted. Go well.
