Thought For The Day – Thursday 10th November 2022
Service
.
Service is the act of helping others. It is at the very heart of “The Black and Gold Spirit”, inside and outside school.
There was much service in evidence last evening. Thank you very much to Year 13, Year 12 and Year 11 students for their wonderful contributions. There was great energy, enthusiasm, enjoyment, empowerment and enlightenment in the school, brilliantly led by sixth form students and superbly guided by staff, especially Mr. Reeve, Mr. Stark and the Sixth Form Management Team.
As we look forward to the TBSHS’ Service of Remembrance tomorrow, we continue to remember all those who serve, and sacrifice, and all who have served and sacrificed.
If members of our family had passed away in conflict, quite simply, we would not be here.
There are so very many people who did not have the opportunity to be here because a person passed away in conflict and therefore they did not have descendants.
“Earn this” is the final moving message of “Saving Private Ryan”, the full film of which, set in The Second World War, should only be watched by those old enough to do so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X32O5_NVhxU. “Earn this” is about service and applies to life generally as we build on the legacy of family members and all who have inspired and loved and will always inspire and love. Our best tribute is to remember, respect and pay it forward.
We have a few more poppies, and metal pins, available today. It is the very least we can do for those who have served and sacrificed in conflict, for those who still serve and sacrifice in conflict, and for all their families, for the victims of terrorism and for the emergency services.
Who will we help and serve today?
