Thought For The Day – Monday 8th September 2025
Helping Others
Pictured above: Friday 5th September 2025: Dawn breaks on a new academic year at The Bishop’s Stortford High School, our second at Beaumont Avenue. What are your hopes for the days, weeks, months and year ahead?
We hope you had a very positive beginning to school last week. It is “Week 2” on the timetable this week.
We continue to ensure our new students: whether they be our wonderful Year 7 students; the excellent recruited students in Year 12; and our brilliant new staff; feel very welcome.
We equally greatly welcome their families, as we welcome all students, families and staff at T.B.S.H.S.
Ultimately, “The Black and Gold Spirit” is about helping others.
A vital part of this, as our Standards Evenings commence in the coming days, is having high standards, giving our very best.
This starts with: our checks and healthy preparations for each (school) day; our journey to, and from, school, in the community; and very much continues in: form time; lessons; around the school; extra-curricular activities and homework.
Getting important mindsets, and routines, established early in the game and in the season, is an impactful target at the moment. Start as we mean to go on.
Acting with great care around the school, mindful of all the work caretakers, cleaners and former students put in, in very hot conditions, whilst we were on holiday, is another vital focus.
But, in our journey in the school year and season, and indeed in life, things will not always be straightforward. There are challenges, some beyond words. Good character, empathy, helping others, humility, kindness, reflection, resilience, service, support and values will be needed.
Each day, we are inspired by those we love.
Today, the 8th of September, marks the third anniversary of the passing from this life of Queen Elizabeth II, someone who epitomised standards, good character, empathy, helping others, humility, kindness, reflection, resilience, service, support and values.
Towards the close of this coming week three years ago, T.B.S.H.S. had a special whole school assembly, led by Mr. Reeve, in the sunshine on the sports fields at our London Road site, to pay our respects as a school community to Queen Elizabeth II.
