Black And Gold Standards
We hope you had a good and productive first few days of term.
We continue to welcome the new staff, students, and families who have joined T.B.S.H.S..
This second week of term, will, of course, follow Week 2 on the timetable.
Many students will experience important “Standards Evenings” this week.
One meaning of the word standard is an acceptable, or desired, level of achievement, performance, and quality.
At The Bishop’s Stortford High School, our “Black and Gold” standards are guided and inspired by our “past, present, and future” values of: aspiration, commitment (including resilience), respect, integrity, community, and equality.
As another important season dawns, we can be inspired by the student standards and success of the summer holidays of 2026, where, Year 13, on the 13th of August, and then Year 11, on the 20th August, received their examination results. It was wonderful to see the joy, pride and, to a certain degree, relief, experienced by students, who had worked very hard, and their families, who had supported beyond words over the years.
Some students had been at the School for five or seven years. Some students had been at T.B.S.H.S. for a shorter period of time, but with equal “Black and Gold” standards, success. and spirit.
In the Sixth Form, for example, there was outstanding and excellent achievement from girls.
As these students know, the path to being happy after opening the results envelope on those results days is founded on effective study inside, and outside of, lessons and school. This journey commences in Year 7, and in Primary School beforehand. It continues every day.
For achieving our very best quantifications and results is a key part of our educational mission as we prepare for bright futures. Every person’s journey is different, personal, unique, and valued, but the common denominators and standards are engagement, hard work, organisation, progress, respect, love and passion for subjects, and support.
A second important aspect of our education is enriching extra-curricular involvement. The extensive, and wonderful, programme at T.B.S.H.S. provides further opportunities for enrichment, growth, health, standards, skill development, and society. It also helps the academic. “If we want something done, ask a busy person”, it is said. The four students in the first picture above, Sam, James, JJ, and Evan, as well as achieving outstanding examination results, were all also brilliant extra-curricular leaders, particularly in music and drama. Year 7 students enjoyed a superb rugby morning on Saturday. Another fine T.B.S.H.S. tradition.
Finally, and very significantly, in all of the above, being a good, kind and thoughtful person, looking after others, our environment, and ourselves, is our ultimate goal, purpose, responsibility, and standard.
