Thought For The Day – Monday 24th February 2025
The “Run-In” Begins
The first three photographs above are of our last two Sports Days. The first photograph was taken very early in the morning before Sports Day 2023, in the calm before the excitement.
“Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize. Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last forever. That is why I run straight for the finish line.” (Saint Paul, First Letter to the Corinthians, chapter 9, verses 24-27)
“We know what we have to do to win our games. You saw today how hard we had to work. There are eleven games to go. If these players are able to keep on working this hard, we have a chance. We work every single day so hard to achieve this. It is three months of very hard work to hopefully keep the results going. There is no secret. Work as hard as we can and play “the football” in certain moments. You always have to adapt to the challenge you have. If you play Manchester City away it is a totally different challenge to playing Plymouth Argyle away, or Wolves at home. Eleven games to go. They will all be difficult. Like the one today. We know what we have to put in. This result today was more about defence than attack. It is up to us to understand why we are where we are. ” (Arne Slot, Head Coach of the Liverpool Football Club men’s team)
We hope you had a good half-term.
Thank you to all who participated in educational visits. Thank you to all who organized, and supervised, these wonderful opportunities, giving so very generously of the time and expertise.
We look forward to Spring (which metrologically, at least, begins on Saturday, but perhaps not just completely yet weather-wise) at Beaumont Avenue.
Our attitude and character brings the positivity and resilience
There have been many twists and turns since September, as there always are in any season.
In this academic year, we are still “running the bend”, and will probably have not “taken the bell”, to signify the last lap, just yet. We know we need to sustain, and find more, momentum, rhythm and pace.
We make every day count.
We know that the rewards will come when we cross the finishing line, knowing we have given our all, and left everything out there, running our (not someone else’s) best race. On results day. In education. In employment. In life. Everyone’s journey is personal. Support is collective.
In sports, the “run-in” refers to key moments in the middle and end of a season.
Good luck to Year 13, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 10 students stepping up their preparation for examinations. These foundations are also built in Year 7 and Year 8, and before.
Very best wishes to Year 9 commencing examinations this week. Students should: do their best; take every day, lesson, exam and question at a time, get good sleep; find, stick to and trust their own personalized revision plan and process; look after themselves, and others.
An example of resources created by Year 9 students in 2025 is below. There are many more examples in Year 9. On such pillars will success in the GCSEs of 2027, and the A-Levels of 2029, be built.
In the exciting few weeks ahead, extra-curricular, community and cultural contributions continue to greatly give back, illuminate, inspire, nourish and relax. Passion, perspective and play. Thank you to all organizing, and participating in, TBSHS’ Musical Festival. That, also, is brilliantly founded on the values of commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community.
