Thought For The Day – Monday 10th February 2025
Be Black, Gold and Green
Today sees the beginning of our Sustainability Week at TBSHS.
Sustainability means causing little, or no, damage to the environment. Sustainability is vital so that the environment, and all in it, can positively flourish, both in the present and in the future. We owe this to current, and future, generations.
Sustainability is vital to, and for, safety. Sustainability connects to equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as our school values of commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community. Sustainability is ultimately about looking after others and ourselves.
Every seemingly small action makes a very significant positive difference to all, just as every seemingly small increase in global temperature, and warming, makes a very significant negative difference to all. It is about we not me.
So, once again, based on ethics, science, health and wellbeing, we are encouraging you to “Be Black, Gold and Green”. There will be house points available.
To mark the opening of our brilliant new “cycle hub” today, students who cycle to school today will gain a ticket to an excellent special assembly led by professional triathlete Zack Cooper, who will visit TBSHS later this term. Please wear a helmet when cycling to and from school. Be safe and be seen.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 11th February, there will be a jog or run to TBSHS along specified routes. Students respectfully participating in this opportunity, safely crossing roads and keeping to paths, will need to leave equipment needed for Tuesday in their locker today, apart from materials needed for this evening’s homework due tomorrow, and wear their Physical Education kit (participants will be given permission for this on completion). Participating students should consider carrying a small rucksack for valuables, such as keys and mobile telephones, and join the jog or run on time at one of the “run stops” where a teacher will arrive before departure time. Timings will be exact, participants must not be late to participate. Other staff and students will not be able to wait.
The jog and run departure location and times tomorrow, Tuesday, are: Route 1: 7:30: The entrance to Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club. 7:45: Bishop’s Stortford Library. 7:50: “Aldi” Supermarket (other good supermarkets are available). Route 2: 7:35: Opposite Leventhorpe School. 7:50: The opposite side of the road to Spellbrook Primary School.
Thank you to Mr, Reeve, Mr. Harvey, Mr. Dickens, “The Green Team” and the Science and Geography departments in particular for all they do to educate about, lead and model sustainability at TBSHS.
What a wonderful platform our new school is for sustainability.
“Be Black, Gold and Green”. Today and every day. This week and every week.
