Thought For The Day – Friday 3rd July 2026
Leadership By Example
Well done to those students, and staff, who engaged in the “House Run to School” yesterday.
Pictured above are two students running past the former campus of The Bishop’s Stortford High School. An important past, now remembered, for the present and future, with a sign. History always matters.
After school today, the excellent “One Stop Eco Shop” returns. Thank you to Mrs. Miles and to the “Parents, Teachers, and Friends Association” (P.T.F.A.) for all the fundraising for T.B.S.H.S. they do throughout the year.
We also take this opportunity to equally thank the “Parents and Sports Association” (P.S.A.) for all the fundraising they do throughout the year.
On Wednesday evening, though not everyone follows football, or supports the England men’s football team, Harry Kane showed leadership by example.
In recent times also, the England’s women’s football team, the Lionesses, have demonstrated leadership by example.
And, as leadership continues to be a focus, both nationally and globally, the highest leadership is leadership by example, for leadership by example embraces humility, integrity, respect, and service.
Leadership by example involves putting those being led, not the leader, first.
Those helping at “One Stop Eco Shop” will show leadership by example.
Those engaging in the “House Run to School” yesterday showed leadership by example.
We wish you a good, happy, healthy, restful, and safe weekend, when it arrives.
Ensuring good sleep this weekend will be important as temperatures are forecast to rise again next week.
It is our responsibility to ensure we are properly prepared for every day and week. It is our responsibility to lead by example as best we can.
Everyone manages their personal challenges, commitments, and schedule to ensure they are fully ready and prepared for what they can, have and need to, do.
We look forward to seeing every student fresh, and ready to go, at 8:30 a.m. on Monday the 6th of July 2026. Next season has very much already begun, for all year groups. Year 12 will receive the results of their very important “Gateway Examinations” today.
Just like at our former “home” at London Road, the foundations, and houses, are being built.
Every day, every school day, is an opportunity to lead by example and make a positive difference.
“The Black and Gold (and Green) Spirit” has never been disrespectful, partial, selfish, and selective, taking the easy way out.
“The Black and Gold (and Green) Spirit” embraces, includes, nurtures, and, with aspiration, humility, respect , service, and standards, healthily does it all for all.
Former student, and captain of the M.C.C. cricket team in the fixture with T.B.S.H.S. this week, Simon McConnell, a leader by example, after he had left The Bishop’s Stortford High School, once described “The Black and Gold (and Green) Spirit” as thinking of others and putting others first.
