Thought For The Day – Friday 16th January 2026
World Religion Day
Sunday 18th January 2026 is World Religion Day.
The aim of World Religion Day is to promote compassion, dialogue, unity, love, peace, and understanding between faiths, peoples, and religions.
We are one people. We are one world.
We stand against all negative prejudice and negative discrimination.
We value religion and spirituality. We value goodness and values.
World Religion Day educates us to engage and empathise with, listen to, learn from, and respect cultures, faiths, and religions. Theology is the study of religions.
In his later, second and empathetic philosophy, the 20th century philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, based in Cambridge, talked about the importance of understanding how words, and actions, are used by cultures and communities in what he called “language games” and “forms of life”.
Through learning about people, we ultimately learn about ourselves.
The outer points to the inner.
World Religion Day encourages us to deeply reflect on our beliefs, ethics, journey, and values, We look within, at our own soul and spirit, metaphorical or otherwise.
What do we think about the big questions? Is there a life beyond this one? What is truly important? What should we do? How should we act and love? Why are we here?
