What an evening last night was! The photograph above was taken after the match.
Teamwork made the dream work as, once again, there was such a wonderful buzz around the school, with leadership at all levels, as we welcomed so many visitors.
Thank you to all who made such a massive contribution on what was the last Open Evening on our current site.
You made memories. You made the difference.
A stunning evening. A stunning school. Because of commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community. Because of equality, diversity and inclusion. Because of resilience and responsibility. Because of continuing reflection for improvement. Because of staff, students and parents, both past, present and future.
If you were not involved last evening, play your important part today in focusing on learning and helping others. We support each other.
In the next twenty-four hours, the school will transition from the ebullience, energy and enthusiasm of last night to a mood of further reflection, remembrance and respect ahead of our Remembrance Service on Friday.
Both Sixth Form Open Evening and our Remembrance Service tomorrow are central to our ethos.
The word ethos is derived from the Greek for character. Ethos describes the beliefs, character, ideals and ethical and moral principles of a community.
Ethos comes before everything.
Assemblies delivered this week by Mrs. Ellen, Head of History and Associate Assistant Headteacher, have been outstanding on the theme of Remembrance. Exceptional work too, from the Art Department, is in reception. We have just a few poppies, and now wrist bands, remaining.
We remember those who have sacrificed, served and suffered and those who still sacrifice, serve and suffer.
We remember those who suffer, and have suffered, because of conflict, terrorism, violence and war.
We remember those who serve in all capacities, including the emergency services. The forces in the U.K., of course, played a key role here in caring for, and helping people, in the global pandemic.
Reflection, remembrance and respect is key to the respectful democracy and ethos of the United Kingdom, past, present and future.
Our existence is contingent or dependent. We are here because our family, our family’s family, our family’s family’s family and so on. Our existence is also contingent or dependent on our health, wellbeing and our environment. Black, Gold and Green.
There are many invisible students, invisible staff and invisible parents who did not, and do not, have the opportunities we have today.
