Thought For The Day – Friday 13th March 2026
Mothering Sunday
A large group of Year 11 students, smartly in unform, were walking through Bishop’s Stortford town centre on Wednesday evening.
“We have just bought Mother’s Day cards and presents, Sir”, they proudly said.
Outstanding.
Mothering Sunday is this Sunday.
This Sunday we reflect on those who Mother.
“God could not be everywhere, so God made Mothers”, wrote Rudyard Kipling.
We reflect on, and give thanks for, Biological Mothers, Adopted Mothers, Stepmothers, and Grandmothers.
Whether they be here in this world.
Or whether they guide us from Heaven.
We also think about, reflect on, and give thanks for, all Women who inspire, lead, care, nurture, and guide.
We reflect on Mother Earth and Mother Nature.
For the miracles who are Mothers come in very many forms.
As do families generally. The Latin “familia” refers to a wider community.
It was wonderful to welcome carers, guardians, and parents for an academic consultation evening last night.
It has been brilliant to welcome back to T.B.S.H.S. Mrs. Allen, Head of Year 9, after her maternity leave.
We are very grateful indeed to Mr. Wagstaff for his great leadership of the year group, deputising for Mrs. Allen.
Tonight carers, parents, guardians, staff, students, and friends of T.B.S.H.S. will come to together, to raise money for the school in the P.T.F.A. Quiz. Thank you very much to Mrs. Miles and all the P.T.F.A. team for their organisation of this event.
Roots are never, ever forgotten.
Former student of T.B.S.H.S., and current broadcaster and author, Greg James returns to another epic “Comic Relief” challenge today and next week. Greg will ride 630 miles, on a tandem bicycle, from Weymouth to Edinburgh. Greg will, once again, raise awareness of mental health. Greg recently chaired a broadcast on this important topic with the Prince of Wales.
Greg James will raise money for charity in memory of his inspirational father, who is seriously ill in hospital, and his inspirational mother.
We send Greg, his father, his mother, our very best wishes.
