Thought For The Day – Monday 16th March 2026
Timeless Truths
Pictured above: Sunset at T.B.S.H.S., Monday the 9th of March 2026.
Today, we celebrate three important and inspiring subjects to the curriculum and to life itself.
This morning, we, once again, warmly welcome “The Globe Players” to T.B.S.H.S. to perform the timeless writing of William Shakespeare to Year 11 students.
Centuries later, William Shakespeare’s profound work still speaks to us today. Thank you very much to Ms. Matharu, and the English department, for organising this very important opportunity.
Saturday the 14th of March was the International Day of Mathematics. This day, the fourteenth day of the third month, is also known as “Pi Day” after the mathematical, and life, constant of π, Pi, which is, approximately, 3.14, with the number of digits after the decimal point being endless and infinite.
Very appropriately, the theme for the International Day of Mathematics this year was “Hope”. The organisers of the International Day of Mathematics, quoting a mathematician, philosopher, and scientist of Ancient Greece, Thales (“hope is the most universal of all human possessions”) state:
“Mathematics is one of the most universal human possessions. Connecting hope and Mathematics creates opportunities for deeper insight and knowledge. Mathematics gives us hope to understand reality and truth clearly, share common definitions, learn cooperation, use data responsibly, find win-win strategies, and more.”
We should also note that Sunday saw the conclusion of British Science Week.
All these subjects, English Language and Literature, Mathematics, and Science, teach, and practice, timeless truths.
Ethically, morally, and respectfully used, Language, Literature, Mathematics, and Science change lives, and the world, for the better.
Thank you very much to all who work in these important areas, including all at The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
